Probably in the voice industry that is! That's why I joined this awesome certification program for voice acting, dubbing and other voice related jobs for training! This is the Certified Voice Artist Program (CVAP) by the Voice Master of the Philippines himself, Mr. Pocholo De Leon Gonzales.
This is my insight for our second week session. Well, our first week was more like a warm-up or "show me what you got" kind of thing. Our second week was packed! It was a lot of learning and a lot of fun for all of us.
First off, we learned about the different niches inside the voice industry. Every kind of industry is huge and the voice industry isn't any different. There are a lot of niche to focus on like:over
Character Voices
Radio and TV commercials
Public Service Announcements (PSA)
Movie Trailer
Announcement
Audio-visual Presentation or AVP
Educational Materials
Telephony
Interactive Gadgets
Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) or Dubbing
Radio Drama
Animation
Well, for a newbie like me, the voice master advises that it is fine to try all of it so you'll discover where are you strongly suited. Of course, you'll need to narrow down as you go along because you'll never be able to master or do all of these yourself. In this industry, being a "Jack of all trade" is not really ideal.
Second, as we go along learning about the niches we came across about doing character voices or just the process in which how you would be able to produce a desired sound or voice doing a certain technique or formula. It is called the Voice Master Formula. It was devised by, yup you guessed it, the Voice Master himself in order to teach his students how to do different kinds of voices by implementing these forbidden techniques (Just kidding it's not forbidden). It was actually interesting how simple these techniques are yet yields amazing results. Well, as I was leaning towards doing character voices, radio and TV commercials as well as voice over, these are truly some golden nuggets that I've picked up through this training
And the most important thing that I've learned that day was the proper voice care. These are yet again simple habits that you implement on your daily routine in order to improve or maintain the healthiness (in my opinion) of not just your voice but your overall well-being as a voice artist. It's like you are at war. Given the most powerful weapon there is, yet you neglect to sharpen, polish and or maintain it to its finest. It would be useless right? So being able to be taught these kind of things are really a career and life saver.
So that's about it! I'm very much looking forward to our next session the following week. For sure, it'll be another fun and informative day for all of us! And I can't wait for everyone to further showcase their talent once again as most of them are really really promising students. I just hope I am too haha.
